How the Neo Derm Works

The Neo Derm is an FDA-cleared 1064nm Nd:YAG laser built around Aerolase's 650-Microsecond Technology™. It delivers energy in pulses so brief that the light passes through the surface of the skin and heats only its targets: the pigment, blood vessels and water in the tissue behind acne, discoloration, redness and visible aging.

Because the surrounding skin never has time to overheat, treatment stays comfortable and the handpiece never has to touch your skin.

Made with melanin-rich skin in mind

Many lasers carry a real risk of burns or new dark marks on deeper skin tones. The Neo Derm's short pulse is designed to avoid overheating the skin's pigment-producing cells, which makes it a natural fit for Dr. Obayomi's focus on skin of color.

  • Targets pigment in the upper and deeper layers of skin
  • Highly tolerable, with minimal risk for deeper skin tones
  • Can be paired with peels for faster clearing

  • Helps fade the dark marks bumps leave behind
  • Quick energy delivery that keeps skin from overheating

  • Comfortable, with no cooling or anesthetic

The Neo Derm is also used for scars, nail fungus and other concerns. Ask Dr. Obayomi whether it is a fit for yours.

Targeted Light for Vitiligo, Psoriasis and Eczema

Exci308 is a handheld excimer light device rather than a laser. It delivers a concentrated dose of 308nm UVB light to the affected patches only, so the healthy skin around them is left alone. This wavelength calms the overactive immune response in the skin, which reduces inflammation and helps pigment return.

  • Treats only the affected skin
  • Suitable for all skin tones and most areas of the body
  • No anesthetic or cooling gels needed
  • Can be combined with your topical treatments

Care for Chronic Skin Conditions

Vitiligo

Vitiligo develops when the skin's pigment-producing cells stop working, leaving lighter patches. Targeted 308nm light helps pigment return to those areas.

  • Focused on the patches, not the skin around them
  • Also used for other areas of pigment loss (leukoderma)
  • Results build gradually over a series of visits

Psoriasis

Psoriasis makes skin cells multiply too quickly, forming scaly, inflamed plaques. Exci308 calms the immune activity that drives them.

  • For plaques on the body, hands and feet
  • Can also be used for scalp psoriasis
  • Works alongside your prescription treatments

Eczema

For atopic dermatitis that leaves dry, itchy, inflamed patches, especially areas that have been slow to respond to creams alone.

  • Reduces inflammation in stubborn areas
  • A light-based option with no added medication
  • Short, comfortable sessions

What to expect

Light therapy works gradually. Most plans call for regular visits, sometimes more than once a week, and the number of sessions depends on the condition and how your skin responds. Treated skin can look pink or slightly darker for a couple of weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Neo Derm laser

What is the Aerolase Neo Derm?

The Neo Derm is an FDA-cleared 1064nm Nd:YAG laser that delivers energy in very short, 650-microsecond pulses. One device can treat acne, melasma and dark spots, razor bumps, unwanted hair, rosacea and redness, visible veins and signs of aging.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. The Neo Derm is cleared for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I to VI). Its short pulse is designed to avoid overheating the pigment-producing cells in the skin, which lowers the risk of burns and new discoloration that some lasers can cause on deeper skin tones. Dr. Obayomi tailors the settings to your skin.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe a quick warm or snapping sensation. There is no need for numbing cream, cooling gel or skin contact during treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Typically no. Most patients go right back to work, school or the gym. Some people notice mild warmth or pinkness that fades within a few hours. Dr. Obayomi will review aftercare with you at your visit.

How long does a laser treatment take?

Most sessions take 10 to 30 minutes. Larger areas and full rejuvenation treatments can take up to an hour.

How many laser treatments will I need?

It depends on the concern and on your skin. Some people see a difference after one session, while acne, melasma and hair removal usually call for a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart. You will get a personalized plan at your consultation.

Exci308 excimer light

What is Exci308, and is it a laser?

Exci308 is an excimer light device, not a laser. It delivers focused 308nm UVB light, a wavelength long used in dermatology for vitiligo, psoriasis and eczema, directly to the affected skin.

Who is Exci308 for?

It is used for vitiligo, psoriasis (including scalp psoriasis), atopic dermatitis (eczema) and other areas of pigment loss. It is suitable for all skin tones and most areas of the body. Studies have focused on patients aged 15 and older, so Dr. Obayomi will advise on options for younger children.

How many Exci308 sessions will I need?

It varies with the condition and how your skin responds. Light therapy works best as a regular series, and some people need to come in more than once a week at first. Results build gradually, and maintenance may be needed because these conditions can return.

Are there side effects with Exci308?

Side effects are limited. Treated skin can turn pink or slightly darker for a couple of weeks. Exci308 is not right for everyone, including during pregnancy or for people who are sensitive to light or take medications that increase light sensitivity, so Dr. Obayomi will review your history first.

Getting started

Can I combine these with my other treatments?

Often, yes. Laser and light can be one part of a plan that also includes prescription skincare, peels or other in-office procedures. Dr. Obayomi will advise on what is safe to combine and when.
